Of the 700+ members of the Sierra Nevada Association of Realtors, I was nominated and selected to receive the Realtors of the Quarter award. It all stemmed from a bank owned listing.
Many of you know I represent banks as a listing agent for REO properties. I received a call about 45 days ago from an agent I'd never worked with before in neighboring Carson City about a property I just listed in Dayton, Nevada. She'd left me a message about her clients who were in their fifties, but were first-time homebuyers nonetheless, that had been beaten out on a few contracts and were hopeful to see and possibly write an offer on my listing.
As I always do, I called the other agent right back within 15 minutes of missing her call. And, as often happens in our industry, I got her voicemail...so I left a message. It was a message I often leave for anyone calling on one of my listings, letting them know that I am here to help them, that not all REO transactions have to be difficult, and that I would be delighted to assist her in any way I could. I continued to say that I was making an effort to change the way the real estate professionals - and ultimately buyers - see bank owned properties, one transaction at a time.
What I didn't know is that I impressed her so much she saved the message and played it for the committee who was to select the Realtor of the Quarter.
We are in escrow now on the house, and due to close in a little over a week. These folks wrote a great offer - with their agent's guidance - and it's gone beautifully largely because both parties are committed to the transaction, their clients, and most of all - to communicate with each other on anything, big or small.
With communication, the little glitches don't become big insurmountable problems because we catch them before they fester and grow.
I am honored to be the Realtor of the Quarter for the Sierra Nevada Association of Realtors, and was genuinely surprised to be given an award for (in my opinion) 'just doing my job'. Being recognized by your peers for a job well done was something really special, and I hope to be lucky enough to be honored again in the future.
