Stone House Cafe Reno Nevada

The Stone House Cafe opened in 2005 and was the vision of Adele Abowd, half of the partnership of Paul and Adele Abowd who founded Adele's in Carson City, Nevada.

Adele and Paul moved to Northern Nevada from the Bay Area where they were involved in the famiy restaurant business. Over several decades, they opened several successful restaurants across Reno and Carson City, including Adele's in Carson City, Adele's at the Plaza in downtown Reno, and Peg's Glorified Ham & Eggs on Sierra Street - also in Reno.

When Paul and Adele retired in 2003, they lived near  the current location of The Stone House Cafe. Adele's vision of patio dining in the Sierras was born. The new restaurant project began in 2004 but sadly, Adele did not live long enough to see it completed. When you visit, you will see a beautiful rock fountain at the entrance (featured in the photo at right). This restaurant was dedicated to Adele by her family as their "Rock of Gibraltar". The restaurants are still family affairs and Paul is still very involved in the businesses, and is even rumored to still be in the kitchen cooking every night.

When I went to The Stone House Sunday afternoon, I had a hard time picking from the menu. Everything sounded SO delicious! I decided to have the Spinach and Apple Salad, featuring fresh spinach, raddichio, sliced apples, crumbled bleu cheese and carmelized pecans, topped off with Stone House dressing. Jana had the Classic Chicken Caesar Salad with moist, delightful chicken fanned out over romaine lettuce with parmesan cheese and a Stone House Cesear dressing.

The shadows cast over the plate are from us sitting outside under umbrellas enjoying the patio dining that Adele envisioned. The patio is bordered with beautiful hedges and several umbrellas offering plenty of shade. For cooler evenings in spring and fall, heaters are strategically placed to make the patio comfortable.

Overall, the service was impeccable, the food was exquisite, and the ambiance was blissful. You would never believe that you were at the corner of a busy intersection in old town Reno. Make sure to check out The Stone House website, too. During evenings in summer they have a special appetizer menu that is the perfect compliment to the live entertainment offered. It will definitely be an evening to savor.
