The Carson Valley Nevada area is a beautiful little valley with cattle ranches and beautiful vistas and spectacular Sierra Nevada mountain range views to the west. The ranches and farms use flood irrigation to water their fields and there is an intricate system of ditches throughout the valley diverting the Carson River flows to agricultural uses. We actually have a Ditch Committee and there is documentation going back to the priority of water use from the river dating back to the 1850's. When the fields flood on a clear day, it looks like this:
This is just an average day here in the Carson Valley. We enjoy 320 sunny days a year on average. Summertime temperatures can range in the 90's during the day (humidity in the summer ranges around 15-20% - keep your lotion nearby since it's a dry heat) and dropping to the mid-50's at night. So you can open your windows and enjoy a breeze to naturally cool your house off at night. As soon as the sun slips behind the mountains, the temperatures start to drop. One of my favorite evening activities is to sit outside just after the sun sets to read in a chair while it's still warm but hasn't cooled off yet.
Where else can you ski in the morning, ride your bike at noon, and catch a twilight round of golf, ALL IN ONE DAY, and not drive more than 20 miles?
This is just another reason why I love the Carson Valley!
